How to Run an Impact Audit

impact audit marketing strategies productivity tips workload management

The demands of running a business, creating content, or managing marketing campaigns can often feel overwhelming. In this engaging session, Fab Giovanetti introduces a practical way to regain control over your workload and optimise your time through an impact audit. With years of experience as a consultant, educator, and founder of the Alt Marketing School, Fab is passionate about helping people work smarter while staying aligned with their goals.

Fab starts with an important question: how often do we take the time to assess the way we work? The reality is that many of us are so busy with daily demands that we rarely step back to review whether our tasks align with our goals. She highlights how an impact audit can provide clarity, reduce overwhelm, and help us focus on what truly matters.

Understanding the Bigger Picture

Before diving into the audit itself, Fab encourages us to take a moment to think about what success looks like. Setting clear goals is essential, but she also introduces the concept of anti-goals. These are the things we don’t want to experience as we work toward our objectives, such as burnout or sacrificing quality for speed. This reflective approach ensures we’re not only aiming for success but also protecting our energy and well-being along the way.

Running an Impact Audit

The core of the session is Fab’s framework for running an impact audit. This simple, effective method involves listing the tasks you perform regularly, assessing their impact, and determining how much time they consume. Here’s how it works:

  1. List Your Key Tasks
Identify up to five regular tasks that are central to your goals.

  2. Assess the Impact
Give each task a score between 1 and 10 based on how much it contributes to your desired outcomes.

  3. Track Time Spent
Estimate how much time you spend on each task weekly.

  4. Calculate Efficiency
Divide the impact score by the time spent to determine the efficiency of each task.

This process reveals which tasks are worth the effort and which might be draining your resources without delivering results.

What Comes Next?

Once you’ve completed your audit, the next step is to decide how to handle tasks that aren’t performing well. Fab outlines four approaches:

  • Refresh: Take a new approach or strategy to make the task more impactful.
  • Automate: Use tools or software to streamline repetitive work.
  • Streamline: Simplify the process to save time.
  • Eliminate: Let go of tasks that no longer serve your goals.

Fab’s example of repurposing video content into social media posts is a great reminder of how automation and creativity can work together to save time and boost results.

Why It Matters

An impact audit isn’t just about cutting back; it’s about creating space for the things that truly make a difference. Fab encourages us to approach this process with curiosity and flexibility. Even small changes can have a significant impact over time. By being intentional about how we spend our time, we can reclaim focus and achieve more without burning out.

This session is packed with practical insights and actionable tips to help you optimise your workload and create meaningful results.
